We are so excited to announce Sophie as our new Creative Director!!
Over the past couple of years at Sonder, she has been creating incredible & engaging designs that our clients love. From print to web, she is a master of it all. Sophie brings a passion for design & creative problem solving to this role and will help us be more effective at building great brands and launching stunning websites.
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
Flying. Plain and simple it would be a super fun activity. But I have to say, Jeff answered this one well. Teleportation – yes please!
What kind of things do you work on at Sonder?
Design. All things design.
Of course, websites. They’re our bread & butter at Sonder. I’m typically our go-to brand designer as well. Creating designs that work together as a whole system is rewarding. It’s like a puzzle; when everything fits and connects, it’s really satisfying. I love thinking about functionality and experience, so planning out projects and designing sites is a great fit.
What’s your favourite thing about working from home?
I love seeing everyone’s kids and pets make their way into video calls – I typically wouldn’t get to see the little faces that poke in the frame as often.
The small things are actually the big wins in my books. Being able to squeeze in a run in the morning or making yourself a nice warm lunch some days… Being at home is a time-saver physically and mentally.
What’s your biggest office place pet peeve?
Sitting still for too long! Maybe it’s not ‘office’ specific but I do look forward to breaking free from the screen by the end of the day.
What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
Some combination of ☕+🏃🏻♀️+🍻+🚲 = a typical weekend for me. I love being outside and active.
Also can’t have a great weekend without great company. My friends and family are usually responsible for the goofy grin on my face.
Do you have a secret talent?
Well, if I share it wouldn’t be a secret…
What’s something – big or small that you’re really good at?
Being curious. Enough can’t be said about the value of asking questions.
It lends itself to being a designer in some obvious ways, we have to constantly try to put ourselves in other people’s shoes, understand different industries, and perspectives.
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
It’s safe to say I’m a much better listener. I envy the brave who can put on a good karaoke performance.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Hmm… finding new beer? Does it count if I have no guilt about it?
I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for a lot of our Alberta breweries. It’s fun to try out different types, flavours, and places – even if it ends up not being a total hit for me. It’s the adventure of it, right?
Any music recommendations for the folks out there?
You bet. Let’s go with HAIM, Local Natives, Childish Gambino, and Caamp.
Much like how all of my playlists end up – it’s a bit of a mix. These are just a few artists that are on my heavy rotation these days.
