If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

Teleportation definitely. Getting to where you want to be is always annoying especially if the journey isn’t scenic and exciting. If you really wanted the adventure that comes with getting to a destination just don’t teleport. It would be optional. Right?

What kind of things do you work on at Sonder?

Being the founder and team lead I feel like I have my hands in everything. But only part-way in because we have a great team of experts to carry the weight. I do a bit of design, a bit of development, lots of strategic thinking and planning. I am also charged with running the day-to-day company operations like bookkeeping, payroll and everything else that comes with keeping a small business flowing smoothly.

What’s your biggest office place pet peeve?

Cleaning, especially if it is cleaning up after someone else. I mean, who has time for that? I would much rather be applying my efforts to a project than scrubbing day old burrito off a plate left in the sink. Thankfully our team is quite respectful across the board and I haven’t had to do that in a while! (also the pandemic has pretty much eliminated that problem for the time being)

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

Hanging with my family and relaxing outdoors. It’s a shame that we live somewhere that it is comfortable to do that for only maybe a quarter of the year. See above re: teleportation. I should learn to enjoy the cold.

What’s something—big or small—that you’re really good at?

Oh jeez, I have no idea. Sometimes I feel like a bit of a jack of all trades. Maybe attention to detail? I feel like I have a knack for tweaking the small stuff in a project to give things a real complete look. I also get a lot of enjoyment out of working with clients, maybe that is a sign that I am good at it?

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

You oughta know – Alanis.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

I don’t feel guilty about any of the things I take pleasure in.

Maybe food actually… I like cookies a lot these days. Also I haven’t had a Big Mac in a while, maybe I should feel guilty for how much I crave one. Also the #6 on the Wendy’s menu. I’ve been also eating a lot of cheese lately, should I feel bad about that?

Any music recommendations for the folks out there?

The way I consume music has changed in the last decade (as I am sure is the same for a lot of people). Now it is more explorative and curated based on individual tracks rather than the old way of finding a gem and digesting full albums. I live and die by Spotify’s ‘liked songs’ and have slowly been building a massive playlist of tracks I know I won’t hate if they were randomized. The most recent 3 songs I have ‘liked’ are:

After Dark – Eliot Summer

Spruce – Dusky, Pedestrian

Blurred – Kiasmos

Thanks for Pondering with Jeff!
